Reading Check-In: October 1, 2022

What have I finished reading recently?

You can read my review of this book here.

This book was AMAZING! My review of this book is forthcoming; but, I will say that it’s more than a retelling of Stephen King’s Carrie.

I’m looking forward to reading Volume Three!

What am I reading right now?

I am listening to the audiobook edition of this book.

I’m making my way through reading the rest of these books. I started reading each one when I received an ARC/eARC of them. I still remember what happened where I left off, and my aim is to finish ALL of them by the end of this year!

This is my current Buddy Read Book with my friend, Sasha Wins.

What will I read next?

Everyone I know who has read this book can’t stop praising it, so I will be reading this book ASAP!

This anthology will be released in November. Hopefully, I will have read it by then.

I don’t know why I keep putting off reading this graphic novel. I need to get to it sooner rather than later.

These will probably be my “end-of-the-year” reads. I haven’t had a chance to read more than a few chapters in most of these books.

My 250th Blog Post

As some of you know, last weekend was another milestone for this blog. I posted my 250th Blog Post. There are two reasons why I decided to write an essay about Banned & Challenged Books. One, the milestone happened to fall during the ALA’s Banned & Challenged Books Week. Two, I’ve always found this topic to be intriguing since I was in high school. The fact that there are some individuals and groups of people who will go out of their way to ban books is mind-boggling to me.

As for my 300th Blog Post; and yes, I’m already thinking about what I want to write for that post, all I will say right now is I’ve wanted to write about this topic for a long time now. In fact, I tried reaching out to “larger” websites with this topic and they were NOT interested in it. There is nothing stopping me from writing and posting it here, so that’s what I’m going to do.

Winners of SCKA 2022

The other judges (a.k.a. Speculative Fiction Bookbloggers) and I have voted on the winners for the Subjective Chaos Kind of Awards 2022. If you missed the announcement, then you can check here for the list of the winners.

Library Reads

Finished.

Reading.

Book Haul

This and The Witch and the Tsar are a couple of a handful of books I bought (and got signed) at StoryFest 2022!

Book Sale at my public library. I paid $1 for each one!

His Dark Materials: Season 3

Later on, we’re supposed to get the final season of this adaptation of the series by the same name by Philip Pullman. Due to the pandemic, Season 3 was delayed by a year; but now, we get to watch the end of the series by an amazing cast. I will be writing reviews of each episode as well as my “final thoughts” about the entire series. It seems like it will premiere after this season of House of the Dragon ends, which will be an interesting transition (adult fantasy to teen fantasy).

There are less than 90 days left in 2022, and I still have A LOT of reading to do! Not to mention, I have even more writing to get done as well. It’s going to get busy!

What are your reading plans for the rest of this year?

  1. I did enjoy your banned book post and now I’m intrigued to know what your 300 post will be. Nice book haul!!

  2. I still need to read One Dark Window too, I’m hoping I can this month. I’m excited because of all the rave reviews! Sea of Tranquility is amazing!

  3. One Dark Window has caught my eye! I don’t think I’ve heard of it before. I will be reading lots of middle grade speculative fiction for the rest of the year. Time to cozy in and get to reading…
